This seems like a hack. Is Privé legit?
Yes. Privé operates in accordance with the approved French tax ruling Rescrit RI n° 2026-19 and French VAT regulations. Privé purchases goods from European retailers at VAT-exempt export prices and resells them to customers outside the EU, managing the export process, documentation, customs formalities, and shipping. Privé maintains all required documentation.
How VAT-exempt export selling works
Under French VAT law, including Article 73 G of Annex III to the General Tax Code and Article 262, I of the General Tax Code, goods exported outside the EU are exempt from VAT. Privé's activity is carried out in accordance with the approved French tax ruling Rescrit RI n° 2026-19. Unlike a tourist refund, the VAT is never charged in the first place: the exemption is applied at purchase, and the savings are reflected directly in your final price.
