Cerámica Santa Ana was born in the heart of Triana, Sevilla, with the objective of maintaining alive the ceramic tradition that has given renown to the neighborhood since 1870. Named after Triana’s Patron Saint, the factory was a thriving ceramic producer creating beautiful and renowned tiles until around 2000. For generations, artisans have dedicated themselves to creating handcrafted pieces combining ancestral techniques (some dating from the 16th century) with contemporary designs. The old factory underwent thorough restoration and opened as the Ceramics Centre of Triana museum in 2014, preserving historical kilns, water wells, clay storage, mills for minerals, potter’s wheels, airing boards, and painters’ decoration boards. Archaeological work found remains of 8 additional kilns, the oldest in use until the end of the 16th century. Today, Cerámica Santa Ana continues operating both a retail shop (with its famous façade next door to the museum) and artisan production, maintaining Sevilla’s centuries-old tradition since Roman times.
